Welcome to the '13/'14 Season!

Hi All!

Morgan here, with a hearty "Welcome Back!" to a new season of Vicslam! I'm looking forward to a roof-busting fantastic year, and based on last week's first slam, I wont be disappointed! I’m excited to be supporting all our poets throughout the season, as I take up the score tabulation sheet of honour as your new slam master; I’ll be here to provide the slamswers for all your questions, concerns and queries, and meet any slam-related needs you may have. Many thanks to everyone for being so welcoming as I start off- especially Scott Thompson, who is being a tremendous support as I find my feet. Thanks Scott!  He’s stepping off the hot spot, but he'll still be around, helping out, slamming, being his generally awesome self.

Last week we had our first slam of the season, and it was an excellent way to get out of the gates! Congratulations to Matthew for taking the night, and to all the poets who got on stage- especially to the new faces! Thanks to Tom, Katie, Erin, Scott, and Solstice for making the night happen.

Post Finals, and Your 2013 Slam Team

Well folks...

Our 2013 Slam Season has come to a close.  We held our Finals this past Thursday, and if you weren't there, you missed out!  It was a night filled with great poetry, uproarious laughter and cheers and in the end, a Slam Champion and a Slam Team!

Congratulations to Jeremy Loveday for defending his Slam Champion Title!
And a HUGE congratulations to shayne avec i grec, Morgan Purvis-Bellamano, Johnny MacRae, and Pam Stewart as well. Those five will be working together over the next five months writing, rehearsing, and fundraising for their trip to Montreal this coming November to compete at the Canadian Festival of Spoken Word!  We are well represented!

Make sure you stay tuned to the Vic Slam page to stay up to date on their summer, and fundraising efforts!

A big thank you to the Solstice Cafe, who gave us a beautiful space to hold our Slams all season.  Thank you for being the home of Spoken Word in Victoria!  Another big thanks to the VEC for holding our Semi-Finals, and Finals events!

To everyone who came out this season and mustered the guts to get in front of the mic and share their work at the Slams, Thank You!  We hope to see you all out again next season!

And to everyone who came out and supported these artists throughout the year, we owe you a huge thanks!  Your encouragement and support has helped propel all these poets to new heights, and our team is energized and eager to get started!

Thank you all for a wonderful year!  Signing off for now...

Semi-Finals

Hello everyone!

This year we have added a semi-finals component to our tournament.  This show is happening on May 16th, at the Victoria Event Centre (1415 Broad St.) Doors will be at 7:30, with the show starting at 8.

Semi-Finals will be a two round bout, with 12 poets.  Each poet will slam in both rounds, and after adding the scores from the two rounds, we will determine which poets make up our top 8, and they will be moving on to finals.  All regular slam rules apply.

Poems performed this season can once again be performed.  Poets may not repeat the poems they perform at Semis, at Finals.  We have also added the condition that any poem performed on our Semi-Finals stage, or Finals stage, can not be repeated at future Finals, and Semi-Finals.  Without further ado, here are the 12 poets who will be competing on May 16th.

Jeremy Loveday
Matthew Christopher Davidson
Johnny Macrae
shayne avec i grec
Morgan Purvis
Talen Rimmer
Tom Fowler
Keenan Proud
Pamela Stewart
Jacob Arts
Portia Elan
Aysia Law

See you all on May 16th!
